FixesThe Events Calendar Event Options jQuery Fix

A lot of you may have noticed that The Events Calendar started acting funny when attempting to create an event post after updating your WordPress install to 3.1 (and newer). The big issues: the event details form always appeared even when it shouldn’t be and the “All day event?” checkbox worked in reverse.

This turned out to be a rather easy fix. There’s a file named “events-meta-box.php” in your “Views” folder inside of The Events Calendar folder. This file is what drives what you see when you’re creating an event post. The problem is due to jQuery no longer using attr('checked'). It has been replaced with is(':checked'). I went ahead and replaced the relevant code.

You can view and download the code here: http://snap.rvo.me/8zzT

Just replace all of your events-meta-box.php file with this one for a simple fix.

Note: I’m calling the latest version of jQuery (1.6.2) hosted at Google. It’s required for my installs. It may be required for yours. Please let me know.

Update: I should have 100% fixed the “All day event?” checkbox issue with this update. Also it looks like jQuery 1.6.2 is necessary for this to work so be sure to either keep the link to jQuery or include your locally hosted file.

Humorous InsightDon’t Be a Criminal

Unfortunately in this world there are a lot of people who don’t mean well. Then there are the others who just don’t realize they’re doing wrong.

Good news! There’s a website out in the wild to help a fortunate few: those who for some god awful reason believe Comic Sans is a font meant to be used for anything and everything.

Crazy NewsI Saw Empty Clothes Everywhere Laying About Outside!

… Not!

Really, why do people spend so much of their lives looking for an end? Add to that another question – why do so many people actually donate their hard earned money to their shanigans?

There’s a hell of a lot of problems in our world today. That’s definitely true. But they’re not problems caused by some God up about inflicting pain on what Judgement Day prophets call our sin and malevolence.

Many are simply caused by the world we live in. The Earth should be thought more as a living being than it should be a ball of rotating rock. It breathes. It inhales and earthquakes happen, it exhales and lava explodes from a mountain top. These are natural occurrences. Scientifically proven. Many of those scientists even believe a God exists.

Others are caused by our own very human, even animal, nature. We’re selfish, we’re territorial. Some of us believe in our faith to extremes that cause us to discount some of the very words that our blessed books tell us to always remember and adhere by. And most of us, a lot of the time, are just simply wrong.

Hot PocketOptimal Hot Pocket Cooking Time

Hot Pocket I don’t want to go overboard here and create any kind of mass hysteria but I believe I have discovered the optimal cooking time for cooking a Hot Pocket in my microwave. And get this: it’s NOT 2 minutes! I am currently removing my address from any publicly accessible database so as not to invite the good folks at Hot Pocket to harass, publicly degrade or perhaps kidnap me, my fiance and last but not least my dog.

So what is the optimal length of time you ask? For my microwave, Whirlpool Model MH1150XMB, manufactured in September 2003 and operating at 1000 watts it is exactly 1 minute and 50 seconds.

This precise time allows the inside contents of a Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pocket to cook optimally while not protruding it’s tasty crunchy delicious shell. It also allows for a less length cooling time of about 6 minutes.

So. What’s your optimal Hot Pocket cooking time?

Serving WebsitesServer Back Up! (If You Hadn’t Noticed)

Unfortunately earlier today Site5 experienced a catastrophic error. The error was bad enough that it made backup data restoration the best method to fix it. Data restoration on a server of this magnitude is a pretty lengthy process which, when added together with the time spent trying to fix the problem beforehand, equaled out to a downtime of about 6 hours.

I’m extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused any one. This is definitely not a routine experience and I seriously doubt we will ever have to experience it again any time soon, if ever.

Crazy Ridiculous Tech NewsFacebook to Become World’s Largest Bank by 2015

According to Ken Rutkowski of Metal International Facebook will become the worlds largest bank by 2015. In an article at TechWorld AU he also lets people know that they should create a Facebook account as soon as possible or risk having a financial profile created for them.

Does this start conjuring up thoughts of a future society similar to the one presented in Idiocracy? It does for me. A world where a social networking website controls your personal information, dominates online advertising, and handles your money. I don’t believe I would want to be a part of that.

Eventually we’re going to wake up one morning to a Facebook commercial alarm thats catered to our personal preferences. I’ll still want to hit it with a hammer.

Random TidbitsI’m In Love With Clients From Hell

Recently an ex co-worker let me know about Clients From Hell, a great site that features excerpts of horrible client conversations typically dealing with design & web projects.

I don’t think there’s been a post yet that hasn’t made me laugh.

Random TidbitsNew Google Analytics Version Available

Checked it out yet?

It looks as if Google really wanted the design to look better but gave no thought to how things will work. The user interface is less intuitive and even if there really aren’t any extra steps to getting information it seems like there are.

Thankfully Google lets you go back to using the “old” version.

Try it out by logging into Google Analytics and clicking on “new version” labelled in red at the top.
